Architect Frank Lloyd Wright( 1867 -1959) found virtually no distinction between life and architecture. Architecture, art, nature, and life we’re all interrelated to him to be explored, savored, and appreciated together. Given this, it is not surprising that Wright believed in creating total environments, which included designing not only residence, shops and skyscrapers, but also art glass windows, furniture, textiles, light fixtures, carpet, and tiles that fill them. Motawi Tileworks partners with the Frank Lloyd Wright foundation to create art tile that is adapted from Wright’s portfolio of work.
This delicate stylized design of waterlilies, common in the tranquil ponds of the Midwest, is adapted from Frank Lloyd Wright's drawing "Waterlilies", which is thought to be designed for an art glass screen in 1895 but never produced.
This early example epitomizes Wright's ability to incorporate themes from nature and exemplifies his philosophy of "organic architecture" - the connecting of the natural world into his architecture as well as his decorative designs.
